Does Your Home Have a Hidden Plumbing Leak?

These are signs that your home’s plumbing may be leaking

When it comes to plumbing issues, a plumbing leak can create other problems around the house. Often times, plumbing issues can be hidden from sight and may go unnoticed for months.  If your plumbing is leaking, the sooner a plumber can repair the leak, the better. Take a look at some of the signs that your plumbing has hidden leaks.

Increase in Water Bill

When your home’s plumbing is leaking, it can waste water, which will increase your water bill. Even pinhole leaks in pipes can waste gallons of waters. Of course, no one wants to waste water or money just because of a plumbing leak. If you have noticed any unusual increases in your water bill, this may be a sign that your pipes are leaking and need to be repaired.

Mildew or Mold

When your pipes are leaking, water can pool underneath the flooring or soak into the drywall. Mildew or mold grows wherever water accumulates. If you notice any mildew or mold growth where you know it should not be, you likely have a pipe that is leaking. Not only will the pipe need to be repaired, but you will also need to repair the damaged drywall or flooring

Damaged Flooring or Walls

While mold or mildew may be the most evident sign that there is moisture that has soaked into the flooring or walls, there are other signs that there is a leaking pipe that is hidden. If your paint or wallpaper has started to peel or bubble or if your floor has started to warp or buckle, these are signs that moisture has seeped into the walls and flooring from a leaking pipe. Also, cracks in the walls or in the ceiling can be evidence of leaking pipes.

Musty Smells

If after cleaning your home, your house smells strange you may want to check your plumbing. Water that has accumulated from a leaking pipe will begin to smell. If your home, especially your bathroom or kitchen, starts to smell a bit musty or earthy, your pipes are likely leaking.

Unusual Pools of Water in the Home

If you notice any pools of water around your home around your baseboards or underneath your sink, you likely have a serious leak in your pipe that needs to be repaired.
